Getting in shape can be very difficult. If you haven’t worked out for a long while, you tend to over train. That leads to feeling sore for a week and not wanting to work out again. And also, if you continuously go to the gym, it can get boring after a while.

What is BJJ?

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is also called grappling. It’s a challenging sport, but it’s also filled with immense satisfaction. You are against an opponent on the ground, and you need to find a way to finish the fight without using strikes. That includes getting control over them and performing a successful choke or a lock. In essence, you find a weakness in your opponent’s guard, and you put them into an uncomfortable position.

As soon as you get your opponent on the ground, the real fight begins. The actual chess match is getting through the defenses and manifesting your will onto the one against you. Unlike many other martial arts, progressing through the ranks and the belts are extremely difficult and time-consuming.

You need years, even decades, to get to a black belt. The competition is super high, and the requirements get progressively more difficult. However, everyone knows this and supports it. Like all martial arts, BJJ teaches discipline. This is the first thing. Another important thing is respect. You always need to respect your opponent because, most of the time, appearances lie. Somebody may not look like it, but they can be incredibly intense at grappling.

Also, when you are performing a move for the first time, your partner voluntarily gets into a wrong position to allow you to learn. So, afterward, you do the same. It’s focusing on mutual growth as much as working out. You almost forget that you are working out when you are rolling with somebody. Your main goal is to submit them and win.

Another great thing about this sport is how it teaches you to handle losing. Most athletes have a problem with losing, and they tend to get super competitive and hurt themselves in the long run. However, BJJ is different. It teaches you how to lose because you will lose most of the time. You will get so used to it that it will become a regular part of your training. And that’s an immensely vital skill to have. That manifests itself in your life, and you can always try new things and not be afraid of failing.

The last thing about it is its effectiveness. If you ever have an encounter on the street, most of the time, the fight goes to the ground. Since you are training for that all of the time, you won’t be surprised, and you will be ready to defend yourself.

This martial art is so effective that it’s already been incorporated as mandatory in many armies in the world. If the military uses it, it’s definitely worth knowing. As for the workouts, you will strengthen every part of your body, even the muscles you didn’t think existed on your body.
