We are now two weeks into college basketball. The NBA is still nowhere close to a CBA deal. So get as much college basketball as you can.
Here is our recap of the past week.
903 and Kounting
This was a historic week for college basketball. With Duke's 74-69 win over Michigan State, Coach Mike Kryzewski passed Bobby Knight for the all time wins lead in men's college basketball. The former point guard for Knight at Army has built Duke into one of the top programs in the country. Sports Illustrated's Seth Davis wrote a great piece about the relationship between Coach K and Knight.
Syracuse Allegations
After the child molestation scandal that rocked the Penn State football program, it's understandable that more reports would come out. Victims see others coming out and get courage to do the same. That has happened and it affects Syracuse Orange. Two former ball boys are accusing Syracuse assistant Bernie Fine. Fine has be placed administrative leave while the investigation takes place. Head Coach Jim Boeheim is standing beside his friend and saying that the accusers are lying.
Record set in Division III
Griffin Lentsch set the record for most points scored in a NCAA Division III game when he scored 89 points for Grinnell College 145-97 win against Principia College on Saturday. Seeing how it was Grinnell's first game of the year, Lentsch is averaging 89 points a game.
More Upsets
Long Beach State over #9 Pittsburgh - Long Beach State was getting all kinds of love on twitter before this game and they backed it up. They were never intimated by the Panthers.
Middle Tennessee over UCLA ? The Bruins lost to Middle Tennessee, who beat Loyola Marymount, who beat UCLA four days earlier. Things do not look good at UCLA right now.
Mississippi State over #15/16 Arizona - This was in the championship game of the Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament. While it is not much of an upset, the Bulldogs had lost to Akron earlier to start the season.
Presbyterian over #20 Cincinnati - The Blue Hose had lost to Duke a week ago by 41 points.
Saint Louis over Washington - While most of the basketball world was watching Kentucky struggle to put away Old Dominion, Washington was down 25 points at halftime to the Billikens.
Early Season Tournament Winners
Dunk of the Week
This comes from Anthony Wireman who runs the www.allkyhoops.com website that covers all levels of Kentucky basketball. He was at the Mountain State, University of Pikeville game early in the week. Chris Watson of Pikeville throws it down on 7'2? David Nyarsuk.
Finally our condolences go out to Oklahoma State athletic department and the families of those who were lost in the plane crash that killed OK State women's head coach Kurt Budke and assistant Miranda Serna. This comes 10 years after a plane crash that killed 10 members of the Oklahoma State men's basketball team.
