The Florida Gators Quarterback Sneak Into Glendale

After all the most intense voting since the last presidental election, the University of Florida will be playing Ohio State in Glendale, AZ for the national championship! It did not come down to the computers but the human polls who did enough to get the Gators in. Some voters had the Gators ranked #5 in their polls, presumably hoping to move them down far enough.

As a clear Gator fan, I could not be happier. Yes I do think the Gators were more deserving over the Wolverines for many reasons but mainly because Michigan had their shot. If any sense is to be made about the BCS is that you have to look at the results that happen on the field. Not everything can be done by voting and computers. Michigan lost to Ohio State on the field. I would say a one loss Big 12 or PAC 10 team would have been more deserving over Michigan.

Do I think some voters voted solely for the Gators to avoid a rematch? Yes. Who wants to see a Big 10 championship rematch? Okay some would. Michigan did not even win their own conference. Then to say the two best teams in the country were from the same conference is ludicrous. Who else is good in the Big Ten? Wisconsin? They had cheesecake schedule and the only ranked team they played they lost (Michigan). The second best team in the Big Ten is not the second best team in the nation.

Regardless of my joy in the Gators playing in the big game, the system needs an overhaul. Michigan is furious. I hope Lloyd Carr speaks up loudly about a playoff. Urban Meyer has already said there needs to be one. Imagine if Oklahoma did not get hosed in Oregon? They would have one loss and been in the discussion also. I do not like how voters and computers decide who gets the shot at the championship game. It's a horribly flawed system. This will mark the fifth time in the nine-year history of the BCS that there has been controversy involving the title-game participants. I do not need a computer to figure out that's more than half the time.

The best in the SEC playing the best in the Big Ten. Immediately the vibe around the internet is that Ohio State is going to dominate the Gators. By three or four touchdowns. Good let the Gators be huge underdogs. Right now they are 7.5 point underdogs. Recent history has sided with the underdogs. 2005 Texas +7 beats USC, 2004 USC +3 destroys OU, 2003 LSU +7 beats OU, 2002 OSU +11.5 beats Miami. All those teams were underdogs and all flat out won the game. I only hope the Gators have the same fate.
