UNF Athletic Facility Curse

This week the talk of jinxes has been mentioned in the media thanks to Donovan McNabb having season ending surgery for the Eagles. There's the Madden Curse, the Campbell Soup Curse, the Sports Illustrated cover jinx, and the Joey Harrington curse. Okay I made up the last one but he has cursed him and his team since he's been there. All are to be feared even though the athletes invovled don't believe it. Don't believe it? Of course many don't believe something if there isn't fact and evidence to prove it. I don't believe Paris Hilton has a brain. Has it been proven that she does?? Without a doubt...no. So I don't believe it. However athletes better enter carefully when dealing with any of those products.

So in today's Florida Times Union they dug deep and found another curse that has an impressive record. It has to with with University of North Florida's athletic facilities. Here are the facts.

- Every New Year's Day Gator Bowl team that has practice at the UNF football fields has lost their bowl game. West Virginia, which has played in the last two Gator Bowls, practiced at UNF's soccer field both times and lost both games. Maryland and Florida State combined to beat them 71-25.

- The Philadelphia Eagles practiced there before losing to the Patriots in Super Bowl XXXIX. Then we all know what has become of them in the 2005 season. Hmm...

- In 2004, the USA Olympic Men's basketball used UNF Arena before heading directly off to the Olympics. The result? A disappointing 3rd place finish.

The only other non-UNF team that has used the site is the Orlando Magic who use the facility for pre-season practice. So far they have avoided the the curse. But the Madden, Campbell Soup, and SI jinx have their share of safe victims also. The UNF curse is not nearly as known but I'd be careful if I'm the next organization wanting to practice here.
