Madden Curse Strikes Again

Madden Curse
Madden Curse.

Folks it's official. The 2006 version of the Madden Curse is alive. For those non-believers this year's cover boy is proof that the cover is the most feared cover in all of sports. (Can we change the cover to like celebrities next year? Or just make a collage of people we want to curse? Madden can sell space on the cover for people to buy and place whomever they like to be cursed. Maybe that customers who don't tip. Boss you hate? Neighbor whos dog poops in your yard? That'd be priceless. Gotta think about that one.)

Let's do a quick recap of the past cover athletes for those who don't remember.

2005-Ray Lewis - Okay not a bad year in 2005 but in 2006 decimated with injuries and the Baltimore defense is terrible

2004 Michael Vick - breaks ankle in preseason. Falcons have losing season.

2003 Marshall Faulk - Coming off his seventh 1,000 yard rushing season. Injures ankle. Misses six games, and Rams miss playoffs

2002 Dante Culpepper - 5-11 season ending knee injury against Chicago. 78.5 quarterback rating

2001 Eddie George - Coming off a Super Bowl appearance. Injuries all season. Only averaged three yards a carry.

Now in 2006 the story of Donovan McNabb and the Eagles is well documented. When will the athletes believe in the curse? This past off season Jamie Mottram at Pigskin Bloggers interviewd Donovan Mcnabb about the curse.

Jamie: "Daunte Culpepper is over there, he was part of that famed Madden Curse. There's been five or six years in a row where players have gotten hurt or their team's have had bad fortunes. Are you worried about that at all in 2005?"

McNabb: "Not at all. Not at all. And I'm pretty sure if you'd asked Daunte he wasn't worried about it either, so I'm going to focus in on what it takes for my team to be successful and we'll see where it takes us."

Donovan's famous last words. Who will grace the cover next season? If I'm a potential NFL athlete I don't pick up the phone when EA sports calls. Just whoever it is, don't pick them for your fantasy team!!
