If there is one player that is in the darling of the media this week, it has to be Florida's Joakim Noah. First of all his name is pronouced Jo-KEEM. Secondly you've probably heard he's the son of tennis star Yannick Noah and former Miss Sweden. If I heard it right, Rick Majerus was begging on ESPN for more crowd shots of Joakim's mom. Finally he could be a closet Spice Girls fan. More about that later.
Just to show how much his life has changed since the NCAA tournament began. The day after the Gators win over Villanova, Noah sensed he was being followed into his anthropology class. He was tailed into class by a female student and her mother, who sat through the 50-minute lecture on biological anthropology, then asked him to sign a few T-shirts.
That is the life these days of the free thinking, carefree, friendly, selfless, and damn good basketball player. He got his first basketball from Patrick Ewing. However, he's not leaving anytime soon for the NBA. He said he attended a NBA game last season and left early because it was boring. Don't we all sometimes.
How can you not like a guy who blew a kiss to UW-Milwaukee band at the end of the game because they were trash talking him the whole game?
Finally how can you not like a guy who calls Bob Marley a hero but sang a Spice Girls song in his post game victory celebration last game? Yes he was singing one the their hits, "2 Becomes 1". That's right the regional MVP who might just be the best player left in the tournament singing "2 Becomes 1" to anyone who wants to hear. For those who don't have this song on their Ipod or just tried to forget it forever, here are the some lyrics to the song.
I need some love like I never needed love before(Wanna make love to ya baby).
I had a little love, now I'm back for more(Wanna make love to ya baby).
Set your spirit free, it's the only way to be.
He's got media love, motherly love, and all the co-ed love he wants for quite a long time.
Noah and the Gators face bracket killer George Mason on Saturday.
