(Woody Paige belittled the Jaguars by calling them the "Jagwads" before the 1996 playoff game versus the Denver Broncos in which the Jagwads upset the #1 seed.)
You might call it one of the most unexciting Monday Night Football games you’ve ever seen. I call it a thrilling victory and a statement game that maybe gives my Jacksonville Jaguars some respect around the league. At least if you stayed up for the whole game you witnessed the lowest scoring game in Monday Night Football history. That’s history! Not exciting for you but exciting for the city of Jacksonville, which people love to make fun of.
To borrow from the classic movie “Airplane” I think one of the pilots said it best when he said “Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit smoking. Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue. Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit amphetamines.” Tonight Ben Roethisberger picked the wrong week to make his return.
Blame Roethlisberger’s pregame fever or being rusty all you want but the Jaguars defense blitzed, pressured, and hit Ben all night long. Fresh from have his appendix taken out, he clearly wasn’t ready to be taking hits. My mom had the same surgery not too long ago and I know she was out longer than a couple weeks. But she’s old.
The Steelers couldn’t run the ball through the genetically enormous John Henderson and Marcus Stroud who clogged the middle. Cornerback and local high school star, Rasheen Mathis had the soft hands of Jerry Rice when he intercepted two late passes to seal the Steelers' fate.
The Steelers were shutout for the first time in almost three years. Super Bowl champions shut out on Monday night. Has a nice ring to it. I’d rather hear the Jaguars are 2-0 after beating Dallas and Pittsburgh. I never thought that would happen.
