Almost last year around this time we actually cared about winter sports such as snowboarding.
This year, since it is not an Olympic year, we maybe care not so much.
Except when one of the biggest boneheaded moves of last year's Winter Olympics nearly replayed itself in the 2007 Winter X Games.
Then it gets my attention.
One of my favorite moments was when snowboarder Lindsey Jacobellis had her eyes set on a gold medal in woman's snowboard cross and decided to put a little hot sauce on her final jump before the finish line. As we all know now, she crashed and burned, and finished second. Nothing she said out of her mouth to fake happiness with a silver medal would be believed.
Fast forward to the same event, snowboard cross, which is like roller derby with all the bumping and crashing that takes place. It's one year later and it's her version of groundhogs day. Lindsey takes a comfortable lead again heading into the final jump. Even the announcer felt something bad brewing. Towards the finish he said the race seemsstrangely reminiscent of Torino . He suggested she make no mistake this time and head for gold. As he says his final word, she can't stick the final landing, and falls again. Then life is still not done playing jokes and she slides across the finish line on her butt to a…you guessed it…another silver medal finish.

(It's worth watching the whole race)
