The game of the year turned out to be a.....dud. Snoozer. Sleeper. Put the kids to bed. The big matchup between Peyton Manning and the Super Bowl champion Patriots turned out to be a lopsided game. Manning passed for 321 yards. Reggie Wayne and Marvin Harrison both had 100 yard receiving games and three touchdowns combined. Edgerrin James rushed for 104 yards and a touchdown. They scored on seven of eight possessions. They didn't punt the final 2 minutes. Unstoppable on offense. That's like a Madden 2006 player playing against the computer on "rookie" mode . Granted they weren't going against the Patriots defense of the past. No Ty Law, no Rodeny Harrison, no Richard Seymour. Even if they had the defense from The Longest Yard I don't think it would have helped them either.
The Patriots were trying everything last night. What was Belichick doing throwing the red challenge flag after Marvin Harrison caught the touchdown?? It was clear it was a touchdown to everyone. It was so bizarre you expect someone like Jim Haslett or Mike Tice to do something like that.
Then trying the onsides kick after scoring in the third quarter to come within 2 TD's?? Do you ever seen Belichick make that type of call? Never. But when your defense has more holes than an old pair of socks then you want to try and get your offense the ball again. It didn't matter where the Colts got the ball last night cause they would have scored starting anywhere. I think Belichick knew that too.
The Colts are the clear favorites now to win the Super Bowl. They beat a Patriots team that has lost too many key players and coaches to be compared to the Super Bowl Patriots of the past. However to win on the road in the NFL is important. You assume you will win at home but if you can go on the road and to a place where you're winless in the last seven games and win in convincing fashion, then you've proven alot.
