And So It Begins....

It's finally here! The day soccer fans (there are more than you think) have been waitin for since four years ago. The start of the beautiful game.

I'm so excited for the thrills, goals, drama, and upsets that the World Cup brings. Remember soccer is THE sport in most countries. So upsets and victorys are magnified a hundred times in those counties. Here a win or a loss will get the same response most likely from non-soccer fans.

Games start in the at morning and afternoon times. Unlike four years ago when games started between midnight and 6am. Although nothing was more fun than staying up all night watching soccer with friends.

I'm going to be doing a lot of posts about the tournament. Of course I will focus on the USA games but I'll give attention to the rest of the countries. I'll be live blogging the Germany vs Ecuador game on June 20th over at Deadspin. I hope I don't screw it up too bad. I think a couple beers at 10am to start will help that day.

As for prediction, it's difficult to go against Brazil. They have an all-star lineup with superb talent at every position and their second team could probably beat a handful of countries. However I'm going to go with a trend. The last five World Cups played in Europe (yes, Germany is in Europe for the geographically challenged) have had a European country. So if I'm going with one team I'm going to pick England. Now I've just jinxed that team and they have no chance of winning.
