Listening to sports talk radio is my daily routine as I drive to work each day. Today I heard something truly disturbing. A Michigan fan had called in and said that he was rooting for Ohio State to win against Florida. He almost sounded sad they had lost. Wait…don’t the two hate each other with a passion? Hearing that didn’t cause me to have seizure and crash my car but it got me thinking. His reasoning was he was rooting for the conference to win. It’s not the first time I’ve heard that. Since I’ve been a sports fan, I have never followed that theory.

Ohio State and Michigan are one of the greatest rivalries in college football. Rivialry usually means you cannot stand the other team. You have funny jokes about them. You could lose all your games that season but as long as you beat your main rival, the fans are happy. If I talked to a fan of either team, they could go on and on about how stupid everything is about the other school down to their colors.

So then I do not understand how a Michigan fan can go rah-rah for Ohio State in a national championship game?? I would not want the team I hate the most to have bragging rights over my school when counting national championships. No matter if they’re in the same conference. I don’t want to see the stupid t-shirts. I don’t want to be reminded of it constantly the following season.

For example, I am a Florida Gator fan and not by bandwagon either. I consider our big rivals as Georgia first and Florida State right behind. To some, those really could be interchangable. If either one were playing in the championship game, I’m cheering like I’m seeing two hot girls mud wrestling in jello for them to lose and lose badly. If it’s Georgia, forget keeping the championship in the conference. Making it to the championship game says enough about the conference already. No need to win one more game. I’ve been around Bulldog fans enough to know how obnoxious they are. I do not want bragging come from those tobacco chewing lips, brother and sister kissing lips.

If I want to have the championship stay in the conference and if the Gators don’t do it, I don’t mind if it’s South Carolina, Auburn, Alabama, Vanderbilt, or even a ugly Tennesee team win. They don’t make my blood boil as much. I wouldn’t root for them to win though. I’m not one of those “Do it for the conference!” folks even if it’s a non-rival. In that case, I’m a fan of whoever I have my money on. That’s how I decide.

Keeping the championship in the conference is a great thing if it’s your team. Don’t have satisfaction to see your most hated rival have all the glory. Don’t root for them. You might as well just switch teams cause you’d be considered a traitor. If anything, you can take some solace in poking fun at the fact that they didn’t win.

I’ll start this with a quote from a classic movie you probably saw a commerical for tonight. All the talk was about the speed of Florida and that Ohio State would be no match for it. It could not have been more true. Just add strength to it as well.

“When this baby hits 88 miles per hour you’re gonna see some serious shit.” – Doc Brown.

It was serious shit tonight.

The University of Florida are national champions in football, basketball, and Dancing with the Stars. Man I wish I was drunk right now. Maybe my only regret of the night. I got so excited about the game I forgot I should have a six pack of cold beer.

The Gators win the national championship in football in such a lopsided game that general football fans would say this game was boring as hell. You won’t hear that from me. I am a Florida alumni and long life Gator fan and I can’t even contain how excited I am to see the Gators play their best game of the season in this game. Ohio State played more like Miami (Ohio) and the win was so convincing that there is no debate who the better team was. Give credit to the Gators for out playing and Urban Meyer for out coaching Jim BobTressel.

This is a team that struggled to score all season and that was a negative when debating whether the Gators should have even been in this game. Then they drop the largest load of the season on Ohio State. Massive size shit. Forty-one points against a defense that was suppose to be good. Last two games 80 points given up. That’s almost as funny as having 82 total yards of offense in this game.

This is why they should do the Heisman voting after the bowl games. Most Heisman candidates are going to be playing in a bowl game anyway so that should be their last chance to showcase their skills. Where was the Heisman winner?? Is the Heisman that heavy that your muscles never recover from carrying it? 4 of 14 for 35 fucking yards? No touchdowns, one interception, and four sacks. That is absolutely shitty. It’sembarrassing for Heisman voters. Maybe winning that Heisman goes to your head and then you think you’re Jack Bauer and you can take out an army of men with big fucking guns with a water gun. So many times we’ve seen the same Heisman let down in big time games. Troy Smith might have been the worst. He did have the worst passer rating inBCS championship game history. Congrats to you buddy.

The Florida kicker, who I have hurled every curse word at this season to no avail, went 2 for 2 on FG tries. He even had a extra point blocked and it still went in. A Gator defender loses his helmet and still makes a sack. Future three time Heisman winner TimTebow (just kidding) throws for a touchdown and runs for one. Man I wish I was drunk.

Did anyone else notice the halftime show? The UF band comes out and plays some upbeat song. Ohio State’s band comes out and plays a song from Titanic! We all know the massive ship that no one thought could ever sink hit a big fucking iceberg and sank killing most on board. It was one of most horrible and historicdisasters in history and that song perfectly summed up the way Ohio State played the first half. What was the band director thinking?? They even formed the shape of a boat and had smoke coming out from the top. Then they pulled out these blue tarps (above) to simulate water and the band members slowly sank into the water. They might of well have asked the stadium to play the video of Saddam Hussein’s hanging on thejumbo tron during their performance. Maybe they could have brought out some baby cats and skinned them at midfield while they were at it. It was so sad. If this was American Idol, even Paula Abdul high on painkillers would have said that was a horrible song choice.

I heard Ohio State was just going to roll over the Gators. You heard it too. Ohio State was unbeaten and the Gators squeaked by most of their games. Ohio State was just as fast as the Gators. JimTressel is a big game coach. Troy Smith just won the Heisman. So much for all that hype. Watching the game I think Ohio State fans cheered twice. WhenGinn ran the opening kickoff for a touchdown and when they scored their other touchdown. That’s it. So much for second half adjustments. Zero points given up by the Gators defense.

Cannot believe a month ago there was debate that the two best teams in the country might be from the same conference and they should have a rematch in theBCS championship game. How funny does that sound now? Both teams showed they were frauds and when they stepped out of conference this bowl season. I’m going to call it the Little 10 conference because Ohio State and Michigan because it’s only appropriate.

Ohio State is now 0-8 against the SEC. Both of Tressel’s bowl losses came against SEC teams.

Finally thank you UCLA for beating USC because without you none of this would have been possible.

University of Florida 2007 National Champions!! What a dream come true.

I’ve seen a lot of football and thought maybe I’ve seen it all. USC-Texas was a climatic finish with a national championship on the line. After tonight’s game, that was the best finish ever and the best play calling with the game on the line ever. No matter the stakes.

I hesitate to call it best bowl game ever because until the end of the 4th quarter, it looked like a Boise ass whopping. But to have Oklahoma even tie the game with a 2 point conversion was amazing enough. Then it just began.

Boise never gave up. Oklahoma just didn’t have the defense to stop Boise. Really they were not the better team. They led by 7 points late in the game and in OT and couldn’t make a defensive stop once. What a joke.

By that time, I think the whole country was rooting for a Boise upset because they clearly deserved to win this battle and they broke out every sandlot play in the playbook to win this game.

Hook and ladder for touchdown? Check. 4th and game in OT and a wide receiver takes the snap, rolls right, and throws a touchdown. Check. Then the most amazing finishing play I’ve ever seen and a gusty one. Down one in OT they decide to go for the win. The semi-Statue of Liberty play was run so well I think most at home lost the ball until Ian Johnson was steps from the endzone. Even in replay I wondered how Ian even got the ball. It was fucking magic. It was run to perfection.

I’m still amazed by what I just saw.

I think there’s two things that Americans really love to do. Argue and sue. They can happen alone or together.

The great BCS debate is slowly wearing off but not gone completely. I am waiting for the day that a bitter fan actually does sue. I have heard of dumber shit so I would not be surprised.

The one voter that has garnered massive attention this week is the only voter among all polls who voted Florida #1. That would be Jim Walden, a former Washington State University head coach.

You might be scratching your head as to why he voted the Gators #1 when no one else in any poll did.

“I’ve been eating Alka-Seltzer every hour since I did it. I spent four years coaching at Miami, and if you think I like voting for that – - team to be No. 1, you’re crazy. They are the least-liked team out there. I can’t stand them.

“But when I look at it and when you look at who should be No. 1, look at their schedule, they are the best team. … I don’t care about the No. 2 team. Everybody is talking about Michigan and Florida as the No. 2. I looked at it and then looked at Ohio State and said, ‘Wait a minute. Florida is the best team. How can we even be debating Florida and Michigan? Michigan was the No. 2 team in a three-team conference.’

“I’ll give you nine reasons why Florida is No. 1 – Georgia, LSU, Tennessee, Auburn, Kentucky, South Carolina, Alabama, Southern Mississippi [and Arkansas]. Then you add Florida State to that, and 11 out of 13 weeks you had to play as good as you could play.

“When I signed on for this poll, the instructions were to vote for the team that is the best team that week. I’m supposed to say Ohio State is better than Florida? Forget it. Those schedules don’t compare.”

Wow I truly feel the love. Should the Gators send him a thank you note or a standard fruit cake for Christmas?

I am amazed just how hard it was for a man who hates the Gators actually vote them #1. A guy with that much animosity against the them could have easily voted them #2 like most people and blended in. I do not think he did this to be different and generate publicity for himself. Who ever heard of him? Not me. The backlash he is getting for voting that way would not be worth it.

He is just a man who saw the top spot in a different way. Everyone has an opinion about the mess. You know someone who thinks Michigan did not deserve a rematch and others who said Michigan is still the #2 in the country regardless of who they lost to. It’s like some people think FSU cowgirl Jen Sterger is hot and others don’t. For those who think she’s hot, of course I would scream and yell and say how stupid they must be until I run out of breath. Same way with whatever opinion you have about who deserves to play Ohio State more. Someone is going to think you are stupid and want to beat you with your leg after they cut it off. Don’t hate him. Just hate the process.

So once more if you think Jim Walden might have a hint of love for the SEC, here is what he said

“I have always thought the SEC was the whiniest bunch, who are under the mistaken belief that they have invented football, and I have never met Urban Henry,” said Walden, mistakenly confusing Florida coach Urban Meyer for a Lombardi-era Green Bay Packer defensive lineman.

Scratch the fruitcake idea all together.

I could not have been more happy to see UCLA beat their crosstown rivals. A USC cheerleader (above) could not control her happiness as well. I think she bought a new bed, from H.D. Buttercup, so she could take more poundings from the football team.

H.D. Buttercup, an upscale furniture store where a lamp probably will set you back $200, had a promotion where if anyone bought at least $2,000 worth of furniture before the UCLA-USC game and UCLA won, you would get your furniture for free. If they lost, you could not return your furniture. If you walked in and screamed “USC sucks balls!!” you would still get it for free.

As we know now UCLA did the unthinkable and won. The promotion was not insured so the loss comes directly out of the store. But if you live in L.A. and never heard of H.D. Buttercup, I am sure you have now.

Caught on hidden security camera inside the store was a man in a hat and fake moustache who bought a whole new living room set. The man turned out to be Lane Kiffin, USC’s offensive coordinator.
