Man, This Video is So Violent. Cover Your Eyes.

Sunday, April 8th, 2007

This is the controversial video that was not aired in Canada. It seems that Frank Thomas originally was shown chatting with these boys in an online chat. Then Dateline NBC’s Chris Hanson is shown asking what he was doing there and then read his chat transcript where he used the screen name “BJRyanblowsnotonlysaves”. Only did he let Frank go when he said he was going to knock some sense into this boy with a pillow because they were A-Rod fans.

Not really but the controversy over this video is about as silly as that scenario I just laid out above.

The Television Bureau of Canada, a regulatory body for private broadcasters objected to the boy getting hit by the pillow and falling off the bed. Forget that he gets back up and says “Wow”. So the Bluejays had to edit it so he didn’t fall and also put in a disclaimer “”Dramatization. Do not try this at home.” Like it would take kids a commercial to even realize that pillows are great objects for fighting with.

I guess if Canada were in charge of commericals in the United States we wouldn’t have any Victoria Secrets commerical either.

Three National Championships in 370 Days

So should The Ohio State give up the “THE” in their name? Or give up the title of “The Program” by Sports Illustrated? (Cursed). Ohio State fans wanted a rematch with the Gators with a healthy Oden. Be careful next time of what you wish for. I think it’s clear who THE program is now. Basketball, football, and then basketball champions again for THE University of Florida Gators. Amazing. I know the rest of the country is sickened.

I felt this Gator team was a team of destiny coming into this game. I felt good they would win. Too much experience, too well coached, and too unselfish. How often do three lottery picks turn down millions to come back to college after reaching the pinnacle of college basketball? Coming back was the easy part. The hard part was to actually follow through. Nineteen straight eliminations games faced the Gators and they have won them all the past two seasons.

What I like so much about this team is about how much of a team they are. There are no superstars. No one cries when they don’t get the ball enough. No one player tries to be above the team. The go to guy on the team is whoever is open. If it’s not Corey Brewer, it’s Noah or Horford. Or maybe Taurean Green. Or Lee Humphrey starting a run with a couple 3’s. Or Chris Richards who came off the bench against UCLA and was the leading scorer.

The inside game wasn’t going tonight, so the shots were coming from the perimiter. It was the hot shooting of Brewer, Humphrey, and Green that killed OSU. Whenever they tried to make a run, the Gators would drain a basket with such ease.

Last season the Gators won the title by being the hottest team in the tournament. This season the Gators are clearly the best team in the country. They could have beaten the Harlem Globetrotters.

What’s just as sweet as this championships is that it was done against Ohio State….again this year.

One Win Away From History and Being the Buckeyes Daddy

Sunday, April 1st, 2007

I sense other Div I schools are sick and tired of seeing the same two schools in the championship games in the two main men’s college sports. You would think one school who didn’t do so well in one sport would have an opportunity to excel in the other. Like a Duke or North Carolina who has to suffer through a miserable football season to get to basketball where they actually have a chance.

However I am on the lucky side and I get to see the Florida Gators in a major championship game for the third time in a year. Hell yeah I’m spoiled and I’m going to enjoy it while it last. It pains the Gators most hated rivals (Florida State and Georgia) in the south to see all this success. I’m loving it. I know it’s never going to be this good maybe in my lifetime. For Ohio State it is the second time this calendar year. Unlike previously when the Buckeyes were a seven point favorite to win the BCS game, the Gators are a 4.5 point favorite to cut down the nets in Atlanta. I’ll take a 41-14 score again this time because it would be a thousand times more embarassing if the Buckeyes only score 14 points tonight.

No Cinderallas tonight. It’s just going to be an all out battle. I sense the Gators know they’re on a mission and are very focused. Forget the excuse that Oden was still raw in their first meeting in Gainesville and was shaving and shooting free throws with his left hand. Remember the Gators best big man, Al Horford, was coming off an ankle injury. The Gators have won something like 13 games in a row in a dome. They just won the SEC Championship under the same dome less than a month ago.

If the Gators win, I’m going to be doing the Joakim Noah screaming. I’ll pass on the chest thumping. I would like to think I’ll do it with better looks than Noah but sadly I’ll be without the swarms of women throwing themselves at me.

In one last meaningless note, I filled out a NCAA bracket very quickly on ESPN.com. I just had to feel included. I figured I’d do terrible and didn’t even check it until the Final Four. To my surprise I had the Final Four correct. I’m in the top 98.6 percentile which would be great if I was taking the SATs again. I even have the Gators and Buckeyes in the championship game. My final score prediction? Gators 75-60.
