This Might Be More Exciting Than the Dunk Contest
Charles Barkley has always had a mouth and as a sports fan you gotta love him use it. This Saturday night because of his enormous mouth and unwavering confidence, he will race NBA referee Dick Bavetta who must be almost 100 years old now. While filling in during a TNT broadcast on Jan. 4, Barkley and lead announcer Marv Albert got into a discussion that ended with Sir Charles announcing, “I can outrun Dick Bavetta right now, Marv.”
The distance is 2.5 lengths of the court. It’ll feel like a mile to Charles. Barkley will donate $10,000 to charity if he loses. Bavetta stepped up the to the challenge and offered $5,000. The price of embarassment if Barkley loses will be priceless. I wonder if he’ll fake a fall towards the end if he sees he has no chance of winning.
Granted if Barkley was in a eating contest he would win but this is a race against a NBA referee who is used to running up and down the court. Barkley on sweats only when he has $50,000 on one bet in blackjack.
