When the Nancy and Tonya happened many years ago, the outrageousness of the story didn’t happen until the story unfolded and all the cuckoo players involved turned out to be something straight out Jerry Springer.
The news of Mitch Cozad, a sophomore and back-up punter, stabbing junior starting punter Rafael Mendoza in his kicking leg, instantly became the laughing stock of front page sports.
Northern Colorado is a Division I-AA school. I don’t know how many kids’ dream is to kick in I-AA but I guess we can count one for now. If a backup running back is wanting to be the starting running back at Southern Cal, then stab him a few times. In both legs to be sure. Twist it in there. Then don’t get caught. Then a successful stint could lead to a permanent job, celebrity, a gaggle of women and maybe the NFL. If OJ got away with murder then there’s hope for criminals living in LA. But what is the incentive to be the starting kicker at Northern Colorado? Free books? An extra meal in the dining hall?
So I only imagine some journalist would interview Mitch to ask him why he did this. His reaction would be similiar to the man in the video, who had a case of uncontrollable laughter. (The man is speaking French but it doesn’t matter.)
