Imagine this scenario. Your house is burning down. It’s the World Cup. France and Spain are in a tight battle You need to evacuate. You can only grab one thing. What do you grab? Wife? Baby? Family heirlooms? Nope you grab your little television.
That’s what a man in Beijing did when his house caught on fire. When they heard “fire” the wife grabbed the baby exited. The man paid no attention to the inferno, or his family, and walked out with the television under his arm. When he got outside he tried to find an electrical socket to continue watching the game.
He’s not the only one was has made sacrifices to watch the World Cup.
- One fan in China have quit his job, even when offered a pay raise, to watch the tournament.
- Local police had to release a thief for stealing a cell phone after the owner did not want to press charges because he would miss the start of a game.
- One man had to sign a contract with his wife agreeing to do all the housework during the month of the finals so he could watch the matches at night.
- When his cheers during the Argentina-Ivory Coast match woke his wife and she switched off the television, he locked her in their bedroom and settled back down to watch the game ignoring her loud protests.
Just imagine what would happen if China was actually in the World Cup.
