Mike Krzyewski Loves $5 Video Poker

When you come back from vacation everyone always asks how it was. My response most of the time is “Not long enough”. Back in school winter break was never long enough. Neither was spring break or summer break.
This past trip to Vegas wasn’t long enough. It’s just nice to get away from the normal routine of everyday life and spend it in a place where money seems to mean nothing. I was lucky enough to take some money back from there. Not enough to make casino stock prices plummet. It’s a happy amount for me.
I spotted Mike Krzyewski playing video poker at Wynn, the same hotel I stayed. He must love it because a few years ago not long after Duke was booted out of the NCAA tournament I saw him playing video poker at the Bellagio Hotel. This time he was playing five credits in the $5 video poker. That’s $25 that goes in a blink of an eye. He was flying through each hand. He knew what he wanted to do very quickly.
I refrained from going up to him and saying anything. He seemed very focused on his game. No one seem to bother him. He liked the same area and saw him on different days.
No sign of drinking or smoking. No screaming at the machine. He just seemed like a guy who loved his video poker.
I just wish I spotted him playing $5000 hands of Casino War so I would have a more interesting story to share.

After the Barkley and Daley storied, you’d figure sports celebs would stay away from the gambling for a while.

[…] Oh It Would Have Been Nice Mar.21, 2008 in NCAA Basketball Damn, the big upset almost happened on the very first day. Duke haters would have loved it but it would have crippled many brackets. And this is why, we love watching the NCAA Basketball Tournament. Crazy shit always happening at any moment. Coach K. better get his team better prepared soon or it’ll be an early trip to Vegas to play some $5 video poker. […]
