There are many inventive ways to establish a rebound position. On Saturday night Denver Nuggets Reggie Evans showed a way never seen before in a basketball game at any level.
I’ll just let Clippers Chris Kaman, the unlucky recepient, describe the play.
“He went behind my back, went through my legs and grabbed my (private parts) and tried to pull them backwards. In my mind at first? I wanted to punch him. I wanted to hit him. I thought to myself, ‘Don’t be stupid.’’’
Evans is really lucky Kaman decided not to go King Hippo on him. I was hoping Kaman would pin down Evans and take shots to the head. That was a hell of a cheap shot.
I’m not going to go for any Brokeback jokes here because this isn’t about being gay. It’s about violating another man. It’s one thing to be side by side and maybe give the guy a whack in the privates as you try for a rebound. It’s a cheap shot but it happens. It happens in soccer. It happens in the bottom of piles during football games when players jockey for a fumble. But to really take the effort to go from behind and underneath the legs to grab the frank and beans takes a lot of desperation.
I don’t even think his teammate will give him props for what he pulled. I can’t imagine the conversation going “Hey Evans, nice with the reach around. You really had to reach through his sweaty hairy butt crack to reach the front. Ehh..no high fives dude.”
The NBA should do the right thing. Don’t fine Kaman for the shove. They should pat him on the butt for not rearranging Evans’ face and starting a brawl.
