Be Careful What You Wish For Next Time

Gators Final Four

You know the old adage that goes “Be Careful What You Wish For” or “Your Dreams Will Come True”. Sometimes you just have to be careful what you ask for. A little toy truck, an Xbox 360, George Mason in the Final Four. All okay to ask for. Villanova got both of their wishes and wishes they didn’t.

On Friday night, a couple Villanova assistants were sitting in press row during the Gators v Hoyas game. One of the rules of press row is you’re not allowed to be openly cheering for one team. The two assistants weren’t openly cheering but anyone around them could hear them cheering for the Gators..

When Florida’s Lee Humphrey rose up to take a 3-pointer with a little more than two minutes remaining, one of the coaches gave a “C’mon, Humphrey.”

When Al Horford hit the first of his two free-throw tries with 6.6 seconds remaining to seal Florida’s 57-53 victory, that solicited a murmured, “Good.”

I don’t know what they were thinking. Villanova already beat Georgetown by 10 this season. Maybe they though this was the old Gators. The ones that never made it out of the second round since their finals run in 2000. The ones that Villanova beat 76-65 in the second round last year. Villanova returned all but one player from last year. The Gators had fresh faces and not much experience in the NCAA tournament.

They got what they wished for, a 24.7% shooting percentage in the game, and a big fat loss they can take home with them.

Folks, We Have Our Unlikely Final Four

Cinderella is here and don’t take them lightly. We’ll be hearing alot more about George Mason this week. This will be the most press they’ve gotten about their school I’m sure. Now people won’t confuse George Mason with George Washington. Different old guy.

Now if you had Florida, George Mason, LSU and UCLA in your final four then you’re lying. Actually I just checked ESPN’s bracket challenge and out of the 1.5 million entries only FOUR had those four teams. Kudos to them. The winner gets $10,000 and they deserve it.

First time the Final 4 hasn’t had a #1 seed since 1980. The Big East was suppose to be the best conference but they’re all out. No one ever knew much about the Colonial Athletic Association but they have one team in. The SEC was suppose to be down but they have two in the final. It might be an all SEC final, which might not be too exciting because LSU and Florida have already played each other twice.

What an amazing tournament. I don’t want to see it end. However, I won’t shed a tear like JJ and Adam when it’s over. At least I won’t tell you.

Who let the valet boy on the course at the TPC?

Jesper with tie

Jesper Parnevik looks like he should be parking the BMW’s and Mercedes than playing golf. Or I should be telling him “Table for two please by the window preferably.”

But I gotta say he looks more normal than what he usually wears while playing golf.

If I Lost Like That I Might Do More Than Cry

Adam Morrison's Last Game

As I was reading sports betting messages boards after those amazing games alot of people wanted to laugh at Adam Morrison and JJ Redick for crying on national television after their team lost. Brilliant topics such as “CRYING FEST!!!! MORRISON AND REDDICK…WHICH IS MORE PATHETIC?!?” What’s pathetic is the person who started that thread. What’s wrong with crying in sports? Alot of athletes cry when they win. Tears of joy they say and it’s always perfectly okay. Cry when you lose and you’ll be called a baby. I have to completely disagree.

I felt for Adam Morrison. I know all he wants to do is win. Everyone saw the camera zoom in on his face once UCLA finally led in the game. Yeah he probably shouldn’t have started to cry even though there was still time left in the game. That move has everyone baffled. Maybe he just knew at that time. When the buzzer sounded, he sat on the court, covered his face, and fell over. That says it all about how shocking that finish was.

That guy plays with heart and gives everything he has. He talks alot of trash, looks goofy but he backs it up with serious game. I bet he’s still crying. He’s only human. When you put your heart and soul into something for years to only have it end like that is terrible. He hates losing that bad. You want a player who’s that competitive. To lose a game like that would make me speechless for days. I wouldn’t leave the house. I wouldn’t want to eat. At least we know he gives a shit and is not just thinking about the $$$ he’ll be making next season. It’s not a disgrace for crying on national television. It’s a disgrace when you see a Marcus Vick type stunt on national television.

With JJ, the same can be said for him. He’s just as competitive. His college basketball career just ended. JJ had a horrible game and maybe he cried also because he knew he didn’t leave it all out on the court. Let the man cry if he wants. It sucks to get so close and lose. That’s why teams play in the NCAA tournament. It’s to win a championship and if you’re a true competitor anything less breaks your heart.

Of course some athletes don’t cry. Doesn’t mean they don’t care as much. We’re all different. Adam, JJ, and surely more of their teammates just had too much emotion and had to let it out.

So take it easy on athletes that cry on national television. If those jokers can’t understand this most natural human emotion, then I can only assume they have never given their all to something very important and then to be incredibly disappointed. I’m happy their life has been so free of such difficulties. The whole world isn’t as nice to the majority of us.

Texas' Final Shot

I was about to write about the ending of the Texas/WVU game as being the best ending I’ve ever seen. I delayed the start of this post because I think I saw the most amazing finish in the Gonzaga/UCLA game. I’m so jacked up I don’t think I can sleep yet. By far the best two finishes in the tournament so far if not ever.

I had to Tivo whatever I had left from watching the game just so I can watch it over and over. UCLA had no business winning this game after the first half. Clearly it wasn’t a matter of if Gonzaga was going to win but by how much. I never thought UCLA would turn it around at halftime. But UCLA kept at it and used their defense to win the game. Even the announcer got caught up in the moment and kept screaming “WHAT A GAME! WHAT A GAME!” What else can you really say?

As for West Virgina they too were down double digits at halftime. They started the second half on a 8-0 run and made it a game. After Kevin Pittsnogle made a 3 pointer to tie the game up, everyone was celebrating that shot and hoping to soak it in. Except for Texas who smartly pushed the ball up court and took a chance. Even after Texas won the game, I got the feeling of I couldn’t believe what just happened because it all happened so fast.

Tomorrow is going to be hard to top with the games today. I never want March Madness to end. Amazing.
